WHAT WE BELIEVE
The effective, secure, and efficient use of EMRs and other healthcare
data when available to and shared among patients, physicians, and
hospitals, and other healthcare providers improves patient care,
increases productivity and efficiency, and reduces costs. Applications
and information systems no longer act alone. Information must be
sourced from and presented to a number of different locations.
WHAT WE DO
virtual clinical xchangesm provides secure, reliable and scalable standard EDI transaction delivery, non-standard data transmissions, secure messaging and business intelligence analysis and reporting (e.g., metrics, analytics). VCE is designed on the philosophy that data stays where it is created and transmitted directly to the receiver. No hub or repository is in the middle of the transmission. This insures data integrity and security as well as supporting the sender’s complete control over their data and their relationship with their trading partners. We call it:
- "Exchange": as our services support standard and non-standard data transmissions between systems (e.g., Allscripts to McKesson), systems to people (e.g., Greenway to our secure messaging user who doesn't have an EMR) or people to people (replacing the fax machine);
- "Clinical": as these services are developed solely for the healthcare industry. Thereby supporting the exchange of medical records, lab results, prescriptions, claims as well as purchase orders and invoices for supplies, etc;
- "Virtual": as our services provide the same or more functionality that is found with traditional or currently available hub based HIE, RHIO or VAN technologies with the same or higher levels of transaction delivery support, problem resolution and management but without the hub. No central storage of the transactions being exchanged. In other words, virtual clinical xchangesm behaves like a hub based service (or better) without the hub!
WHY OUR SOLUTION
virtual clinical xchangesm is open and highly customizable and is:

- Exchange standard and non-standard data transactions between disparate EMR, PHR systems;
- Exchange transactions with trading partners who do not have the means to process the data in their system through secure messaging (LAMBsecuresm);

- Require no changes to a client’s internal security and privacy policies and procedures including existing HIPAA compliance;
In addition, logs are in place that can be reviewed on demand without delay so that any misuse of the service can be quickly discovered, reported and remedied. Also, automatic triggers can be defined that will notify possible misuse.
KEY ADVANTAGES
There are two main advantages to our decentralized, direct communication design. One is the data remains under existing HIPAA policies and procedures enforced by the doctors and approved by their patients. No changes to policies or patient relationships are necessary. The providers remain in control of their data.
Secondly, there is no "single point failure". One way of looking at our virtual exchange is that it is a distributed database. If a provider's office system is "down", only those records in that system are not retrievable at that time. But all other records are still available (with appropriate permissions and controls) from the other offices and systems. In a centralized hub such as an HIE, if the hub is down all records are unavailable and no one can communicate with each other. Our service is, therefore, more flexible, reliable and secure than what is available in a standard HIE/RHIO.
